Western calligraphy is something that truly needs continuous practice after the first introduction.
This 2.5-hour workshop is designed for students who have already learned the basics of Engrosser’s Script. It is not a beginner class, but a shared practice session focused on returning to the fundamentals.
During the workshop, we will study well-known Engrosser’s Script manuscripts and revisit letter structure, stroke direction, thick and thin line contrast, spacing, and rhythm. You will practise while observing the manuscripts, learning not only to copy the forms, but to understand why each stroke is written in a certain way.
Engrosser’s Script is all about detail. The angle of the nib, pressure control, line recovery, and spacing between letters all affect the final result. These details are best refined through actual writing and guided correction.
This workshop is suitable for students who have previously learned Engrosser’s Script and would like to revisit the fundamentals, rebuild their practice rhythm, or improve their observation skills through manuscript references.
